History

Nishijin is a weaving technique unique to Kyoto. Popularised by nobles, the imperial courts of
Kyoto and the Samurai class, Nishijin has been developed over 1,200 years ago. HOSOO was established in 1688 as a purveyor to large temples and shrines. Today, the brand continues to produce and sell obi-belts and kimono as well as designing for the world’s luxury market in interiors and fashion, offering innovative and contemporary textiles based on traditional weaving techniques and materials.

HOSOO RESIDENCE opened in 2017 as a celebration of the everlasting value of craftsmanship and the warmth with which it infuses a space by incorporating traditional Japanese crafts into the contemporary style of living.
